Georgia Vs. Kentucky: Josh Harvey-Clemons named captain for Kentucky game

Kevin Liles-US PRESSWIRE

For the first time since 2007, a true freshman has been named a captain at Georgia.

Georgia Bulldogs safety and true freshman Josh Harvey-Clemons was named special teams captain for Saturday's game against Kentucky, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Harvey-Clemons is the first true freshman to be named a captain since Rennie Curran in 2007:

"I didn't realize (what a big deal it was) at first," Harvey-Clemons said. "Coach told us in a team meeting and he was saying how rare it is. I really was shocked. I didn't have that many opportunities in the South Carolina game so I wasn't really expecting it. I was real honored."

Harvey-Clemons didn't want to play special teams when he arrived to school, but was swayed by coach Mark Richt.

The 6'5, 215-pound recruit out of Valdosta, Ga. is on three special teams units for the Bulldogs. He works on kickoff, kickoff return and punt return teams, but lately has also been working on the punt team.

The five-star recruit was projected to be a linebacker at Georgia, but hasn't been able to put on the weight necessary, so he switched to safety.

In limited action, Harvey-Clemens has played at safety and nickleback on defense this season. He has eight tackles and one tackle for a loss.

Georgia-Kentucky is scheduled for a 7 p.m. ET kickoff Saturday.
