Georgia Vs. South Carolina: Bulldogs, Gamecocks battle for recruiting territory

Georgia and South Carolina will be battling for more than just a win on Saturday -- they'll be battling for potential recruits.

College football's premiere Week 6 matchup features the No. 5 Georgia Bulldogs and the No. 6 South Carolina Gamecocks, as the two SEC schools jockey for position in the conference -- and for a potential run at a BCS championship.

One of the subplots to the game, however, won't be seen on the field this year. Throughout the years, Georgia and South Carolina have battled for recruits, with the Bulldogs' staff previously being able to land recruits from South Carolina.

Per The Telegraph, Georgia hasn't been able to do that as much recently as they have in years past, thanks to South Carolina's renewed program.

It used to be that the Bulldogs could regularly raid their neighbors to the north for talent like Richard Seymour, A.J. Green, Prince Miller and others. But lately the Gamecocks have been able to keep that talent home: Marcus Lattimore, Jadeveon Clowney and Devin Taylor are the core of the Gamecocks' talent base, while the Bulldogs pick their spots.

"I don't see them as much as they did," said Goose Creek head coach Chuck Reedy, who has coached in the state since 1978.

When Georgia and South Carolina take the field on Saturday, the winner might be getting more than just a win in 2012 -- they might be swaying the minds of a few young recruits in South Carolina.
