Georgia Football: Mike Gilliard, Christian Robinson react to Shawn Williams' comments

Scott Cunningham

The two Georgia players downplayed remarks that many thought were partially directed at them on Monday.

Shawn Williams unleashed a minor firestorm on Monday when he told the media that the Georgia defense was "playing soft", especially in comparison to how they played in 2011.

Williams also said that Alec Ogletree and Amarlo Herrera shouldn't be coming out of games, which of course prompted the media to go troll the two LBs they rotate with -- seniors Michael Gilliard and Christian Robinson (courtesy of the Macon Telegram):

"No one wants to hear they're soft," Robinson said. "I really had to sit down and look at myself last night. I go to church and a verse it made me think about was, ‘everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to anger.' I think we have a great team. One thing I learned in my four years is you really have to stick together. I really think if we do what we're supposed to do we'll be successful."

Gilliard wasn't available for interviews, but he did post some comments on Twitter about Williams' remarks:

Around lunchtime Tuesday, a tweet from Gilliard's account, @GZ_TAUGHTME, read: "Laughing at what someone just told me to go read about yesterdays post practice comments."

Moments later came another tweet: "Don't mention my name until you go back and look at the results these past two seasons."

Of course, it's all fun and games until someone's playing time gets cut.

At the very least, Gilliard and Robinson are going to want to prove something on Saturday, so maybe the Williams' motivational ploy works out for Georgia.
