The true freshman offensive lineman grew up 20 minutes from Jacksonville's stadium.
Growing up in the suburbs of Jacksonville, roughly a 20-minute drive from the Jaguars' stadium, Georgia Bulldogs offensive lineman John Theus has always dreamed of playing in EverBank Field. The lifelong Jaguars fan will get his chance Saturday when the Bulldogs face the Florida Gators in a critical SEC East matchup.
"I'm excited," Theus told the Athens Banner-Herald:
"Ever since I can remember, I grew up going to Jaguars games. I'm definitely a hometown Jaguars fan, so I've been in that stadium many times. My senior and junior years in high school, I was able to go to the Georgia-Florida games, so that was good experience. That's a big game and all my friends will be there. I'm really excited to go back home. It's going to be weird driving over that bridge and seeing that stadium."
Theus, who went to The Bolles School in Jacksonville, has started every game for Georgia this season at right tackle. The 6'6", 310-pound true freshman picked Georgia over scholarship offers from virtually ever major program in college football, including Florida.
