Georgia head coach Mark Richt sees the Florida Gators as comparable to the 2011 LSU Tigers. The Tigers lost the BCS national title game that year, but not before routing the Bulldogs in the SEC Championship game.
Georgia Bulldogs head coach Mark Richt says the No. 3 Florida Gators remind him of the 2011 LSU Tigers, reports Dog Bytes Online. The Tigers beat the Bulldogs for the SEC Championship that year, 42-10, and went on to be shut out in the BCS National Title game by the Alabama Crimson Tide.
Contrasting this year's Gators with Florida teams of the past, Richt said:
"Defense, special teams and pound the ball and be patient. In time, be able to physically take over the game. That's the way LSU's been trying to do it. Alabama has been trying to do it that way. Florida is modeling their game after that as well."
The 2011 SEC Championship game saw the Bulldogs take a 10-0 lead in the first quarter before giving up 42 unanswered points. LSU rushed for more than 200 yards, picking up 11 of their 13 first downs on the ground.
The 2012 Gators are No. 25 in the nation in rushing with an average of 213 yards per game. Mike Gillislee leads the attack, averaging just over 93 yards per game with seven touchdowns on the season. Defense will again likely be an issue for the Bulldogs. They're allowing 168 rushing yards per game, and allowing opposing quarterbacks a 125 rating.
