Georgia vs. Florida: Bulldogs best in SEC East?

Stay connected for news and updates

Sam Greenwood

The Georgia Bulldogs defeated the Florida Gators on Saturday. So are the Dawgs poised for another trip to the SEC Championship game in Atlanta?

Georgia's 17-9 win against Florida on Saturday night was a big deal, for both Bulldog and Gator fans. Not only did it give Florida its first loss of the season, but it put the Bulldogs back in position to make a run toward an SEC Championship. The Dawgs don't stand a chance of that if they lose that game.

For Florida, it's somewhat of a crushing blow -- maybe a difficult reality that Georgia owns the Gators at this point. The Dawgs have won four of the last nine, three of the last six, and both of the last two series meetings.

As T Kyle King at Dawg Sports mentioned in his post-game reaction, "the worm has turned, the pendulum has swung" from the days Georgia lost 13 of 14 games against Florida from 1990-2003.

With just two SEC games left on the schedule, the Dawgs are likely headed to the SEC Championship Game if they beat Ole Miss and Auburn, teams with a combined 2-8 SEC record this season.

Here's more from King and why Will Muschamp is in the hot seat:

Three coaches in the SEC East are on the hot seat, and Mark Richt isn't on the list; Derek Dooley, Joker Phillips and Will Muschamp are. Yes, that's right; I put Will Muschamp on the hot seat. Yes, I know Larry will be back in Gainesville next fall, but can you imagine the pressure he will be under to win this game next year? Can you imagine the calls for his head from Florida fans if he drops three straight to his alma mater? Isn't it nice to know that, for the first time in more than two decades, the psychology of this series now solidly favors the Red and Black?
