Georgia Tech vs. Clemson: Anthony Autry makes plays in starting role

Joshua S. Kelly-US PRESSWIRE - Presswire

Georgia Tech freshman Anthony Autry didn't waste any time leaving a mark on the Yellow Jackets' offense against Clemson Saturday.

Georgia Tech true freshman wide receiver Anthony Autry moved into the starting lineup in place of Darren Waller for the Clemson game and made his presence felt almost immediately. Autry turned a sideline pass from Tevin Washington into a 53-yard reception on just Georgia Tech's second possession of the game.

One of four true freshmen to play for the Yellow Jackets this year, Autry received high praise from the Tech coaching staff as he showed the kind of hands and athleticism in training camp that resembled a starting receiver. Autry's toughness as a freshman is also a plus, which is huge for this Yellow Jackets team.

Autry (6-foot-2, 173 pounds) was recruited out of Norcross, Ga. as a defensive back and wide receiver, as he played both in high school.

Defensive lineman Adam Gotsis, defensive back D.J. White and punter Ryan Rodwell are the only other true freshmen to play for Georgia Tech this season.
