The Eagles will take a detour from their FCS Championship hopes with a massive challenge in Alabama.

Georgia Southern will travel to Tuscaloosa for a very late season match-up with FBS power Alabama, a match-up even the Eagles' official news release for Saturday's game understands is a bit of a lopsided affair:

"They are so far superior at every position. I don't know whether to laugh or cry," [GSU head coach Jeff] Monken added.

UA held Mississippi State to 12 yards rushing, nine first downs and just seven points in a 24-7 win over the weekend. Richardson tallied his seventh 100 yard rushing performance while backup tailback Eddie Lacy nearly reached that plateau and found the end zone twice in the road victory.

"Alabama is perhaps the best football team in the country right now," said Monken. "They hold their opponents to 7.1 points per game and only three teams have scored more than 10 points in a game against them this year."

One bright spot: Southern, who captured their ninth Southern Conference title with a 31-10 win over Wofford last Saturday, received a vote in the AP Poll - normally reserved just for FBS teams. Since the poll opened up voting for FCS teams in 2007, GSU is only the eighth team to ever receive a vote.
