Georgia Southern welcomes the Elon Phoenix to town on Saturday.
The Georgia Southern Eagles (1-1) will look to bounce back from their first loss of the season when they face the Elon Phoenix (2-1) on Saturday night. The Eagles dropped their Southern Conference opener to The Citadel, 23-21, on Sept. 15.
Georgia Southern's ground game was still effective in defeat, and that's going to be a major concern for Elon. The Phoenix allowed 300 yards rushing in their 41-14 loss to the Eagles in 2011. Georgia Southern was able to keep Elon off balance with its infrequent-but-calculated passing attack, which netted three touchdowns on just 10 attempts.
Elon's run defense has been solid in the early stages of 2012, but the Phoenix have yet to be tested like they will be by Georgia Southern. The Eagles are averaging 432 rushing yards per game, which ranks second in the Football Championship Subdivision.
Game Time & Date: 6 p.m. ET, Saturday, Sept. 22
