The Georgia Southern Eagles fought valiantly on the road against the UAB Blazers, but fell just short in a 65-61 loss on Wednesday night at Bartow Arena.
The game went back and forth throughout most of the first half before UAB (8-6) took a 25-22 lead into halftime. The Blazers pushed their lead out to as many as nine in the second half, but C.J. Reed led a late Georgia Southern (6-8) charge that got the Eagles within three points in the final seconds. But Terence Jones knocked down a free throw to ice the game for UAB.
Reed finished the game with 22 points on 8-of-15 shooting and 4-of-7 from three-point land. Tre Bussey added 17 points on 7-of-11 shooting and 3-of-3 from three. Georgia Southern made 50 percent from deep, but was outscored 16-5 from the charity stripe and turned the ball over 23 times.
Jones led UAB with 19 points and seven assists on 7-of-10 shooting. Rod Rucker added 16 points on 8-of-13 shooting and Fahro Alihodzic had 12 points.
