Georgia State Vs. UTSA Final Score: Panthers Fall To Newbies, 17-14, In OT

The battle between the University of Texas-San Antonio and the Georgia State was between two newborn FCS football teams with the first-year UTSA program besting second-year Georgia State 17-14 in overtime. Georgia State had a 14-3 lead at the half, and that is all the points they would score.

The first points on the board for Georgia State came at the beginning of the second quarter on an a drive that went eight plays and lasted 97 yards. The key player on that drive was running back Donal Russell who rushed for 33 yards on the drive and scored on a 24-yard run to put Georgia State up 7-0.

Georgia State got the ball back after UTSA missed a 50-yard field goal and, and then scored another touchdown in only three plays on a 54-yard touchdown strike from Kelton Hill to Albert Wilson. That 14 points was all what Georgia State would score in this game.

UTSA was able to kick a field goal to end the first half to get on the board. After a scoreless third quarter, UTSA was able to tie the game in the fourth quarter on a touchdown and a two-point conversion and another field goal. The touchdown was scored on a 9-yard Chris Johnson run.

In the overtime period Georgia State had a false start penalty and recovered a fumble that pushed them back to the 31 yard line and had to settle for a 48-yard field goal that was no good. UTSA then gained nine yards and kicked a 32-yard game winning field goal.
