A.J. Portee Transfers From UConn Football To Play For Georgia State

A little more than two weeks away from the Georgia St. Panthers football team reporting for summer school and workouts, the coaching staff has added an impact transfer from the Big East according to insider sources.  Defensive end A.J. Portee was granted his release from the Connecticut Huskies and has transferred home to Georgia State.

Portee was a bit of a surprise transfer after performing well in Spring practice but was not likely guaranteed a starting spot in the Huskies 4-3 scheme under new coach Paul Pasqualoni.  He played in nine games in 2010  and registered six total tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss and a sack.

A.J. is a graduate of Mays High School and as a senior registered 48 solo tackles, 17 tackles for loss, 11 sacks and three forced fumbles on his way to honorable mention All-State honors at defensive end.  A.J. opted to sign with UConn over offers from Auburn and Miami (OH).
