Tony Kimbro Commits To Georgia State Basketball After Second-Team All-Kentucky Selection

The Louisville Courier Journal has confirmed that Tony Kimbro, Jr. has signed a letter of intent with the Georgia State basketball program and will enroll in June. Kimbro is a six-foot-six shooting guard from Jefferstown HS in Louisville, Kentucky and was widely considered one of top remaining unsigned players in the state. He was a member of the All-Region team and was a second-team All-State selection.

Kimbro is a big time scorer and shoots very well from three-point range, shooting 46 percent during his junior year. He had offers from Nebraska, Western Kentucky and Manhatten (now coached by former Louisville assistant coach Steve Masiello).  Kimbro had recently taken visits to Kansas and Tennessee and had seen his stock rise tremendously as the late signing period for 2011 was winding up. Credit for this signing goes to new Panther assistant coach Everick Sullivan, who is a former University of Louisville player and worked tirelessly to recruit Kimbro.

He's the son of former University of Louisville player Tony Kimbro Sr., and only played one season at Jefferstown after spending two years at Arden (N.C.) Christ School working on his academics. He played his freshman season at Manual High School.

Kimbro averaged 15 points and 5.7 rebounds a game in 2010 for the Chargers, who went 25-7.
