Georgia State added two players to their 2012 defense in transfer Theo Agnew and signee Joseph Peterson. Both players could make an immediate impact for the Panthers this season.

Georgia State's defense has received a big boost with less than a week before fall camp begins. First, the news was broke by Panthertalk.com today that UMASS defensive lineman Theo Agnew is transferring to play football for the Panthers in 2012. Agnew will have two years of eligibility and could be make an immediate impact at defensive tackle for GSU. He recorded 36 tackles in 2011 including three tackles for a loss and one sack.

Agnew reportedly began looking for a new school this fall after the UMASS coaching staff experienced significant turnover.

In addition to Agnew, SB Nation was able to speak to Joseph Peterson, a February signee for the Panthers. Peterson had some admission issues that needed to get sorted out and therefore could not join the team this summer. But speaking with SB Nation today he confirmed that he has been cleared to play this fall and will report to GSU in time for the start of fall camp on August 1st.

Peterson was a highly rated linebacker prospect out of Dothan HS in Dothan, AL. He was one of the few players mentioned by coach Bill Curry at the signing day press conference as potential candidates to earn playing time as a true freshman.

These are two big additions for the Georgia State defense and are both players that should play significant reps for the Panthers in 2012.
