Georgia Tech pulled away from St. Mary's late to win 65-56, but the game was a back and forth affair for almost all 40 minutes.
The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets held off the St. Mary's, Gaels on Sunday night, 65-56, at the DirecTV Classic in Anaheim, CA. Both teams shot under 40% from the floor, but 20 St. Mary's turnovers killed them in the end.
Brandon Reed led the Yellow Jackets with 19 points and three assists, while shooting 4-6 from three point range. Mfon Udofia, Robert Carter, Jr., and Marcus Georges-Hunt all finished with 11 points
Stephen Holt led the Gaels with 10 points, nine rebounds, and four assists. Matthew Dellavedova shot only 1-8 from the floor, and 1-6 from three point range. The Gaels did outrebound the Yellow Jackets 36-24, but their ball security issues prevented them from really taking advantage of their edge on the glass.
The Yellow Jackets face a tough test on Wednesday night, when they go to Champaign to take on the Illinois Fighting Illini as part of the Big Ten-ACC Challenge.
