Duke Blue Devils Vs. Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets Final Score: 30-20 Jackets, And We're Going Bowling

The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets are bowl eligible for their 14th straight season after beating the Duke Blue Devils, 30-20. More to come here soon on which bowls they might wind up at, but after a disappointing conference run, making it to any bowl at all has to feel like a major relief.

Tech trailed until early in the third quarter before Duke’s front seven began to crumble. Having already played two option run teams this season, Duke performed very well against pitches and outside runs for the most part, but dives by B-back Anthony Allen wore away at the small Blue Devils defense. Allen carried the ball 33 times for 178 yards. Announcers said it’s the most carries by any Tech back in the Paul Johnson era, and we’ll go with that for now.

Other than a fumble and one or two clear distribution errors, Tevin Washington played another good game. He completed a 79-yard touchdown to Stephen Hill and ran for 90 of his own.

Today’s major cause for worry: Duke’s offense did pretty much whatever it wanted, from Sean Renfree's 334 yards in the air to Duke backs accounting for 109. Without two missed field goals and a pick six, this one would’ve been a whole lot closer. Still, 109 yards rushing is the Tech defense’s new season best.

Tech travels to Athens next week to play the Georgia Bulldogs Saturday night.
