Paul Johnson Vs. Randy Edsall: The Legendary Grudge

Last year, a Navy Midshipmen fan posted a story about former Middies coach Paul Johnson and former Connecticut Huskies coach Randy Edsall over at EDSBS. If you're entirely too lazy to click, the gist of it is as follows:

While shaking hands, Edsall smugly said "Don't worry, I won't share the tape with anyone," implying he had found out how to shut down the triple option offense.  But revenge is a dish best served by a heartless coach.

... [YEARS PASS] ...

Navy amassed 605 yards of offense, gained 464 of them on the ground at an 8.3 yards per carry average, and stomped UConn 41-17.

At the post game handshake, PJ grabbed Edsall's hand leaned in and said "Don't worry, I won't share the tape with anyone."

Yes, he held onto that for 4 years.

Makes sense, right? From what we know of current Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets coach Johnson (he has yet to take so much as a speck of shit from anybody in his entire life) and current Maryland Terrapins coach Edsall (he works for Under Armour), the whole scene makes sense. But did it actually happen?

Those who favor Johnson and are neutral or worse on Edsall will lean toward presuming it's real. As far as I can track down, that post is the only record of such an event. But it's one of those things that ... whether it happened or not, it's close enough.

Call it a parable or a myth or a legend. We keep these stories around because they help explain things. Whether they're real or not, they're true, the saying goes.
