Sun Bowl 2011: Georgia Tech OT Phil Smith Sent Home, Discipline Issues Mounting

For Paul Johnson, these are the type of distractions that you never want to deal with going into your final game of the season. Yet, the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets head coach has sent home another one of his players due to "violating team rules."

offensive tackle Phil Smith has been sent home from Sun Bowl for violating team rules. --

Redshirt sophomore tackle Tyler Kidney would be next in line to start for the Georgia Tech offense.

Nine days earlier, Johnson had announced that Yellow Jackets starting CB Louis Young would be also held out of the Sun Bowl for "disciplinary reasons" and that punishment could extend into next season. Smith could face a similar fate going into his senior season in 2012.
