Georgia Tech At Wake Forest Final Score: Jackets Get Largest ACC Road Win Ever

The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets hadn't won on the road since January 16, 2010, a total of 411 consecutive days without winning on an opponent's home court. They broke that streak in style Thursday night, beating Wake Forest 80-54.

In the January meeting between the two schools, Georgia Tech set a team record for largest ACC win ever. The 26-point margin Thursday night was the largest ACC road win in team history.

Tech's average margin of defeat over Wake Forest this season is 30.5. Needless to say, if Georgia Tech had played Wake Forest 30 times this season, it probably would have been a high seed going into the tournament.

Tech was led yet again by Iman Shumpert, who put up one of his now seemingly trademarked box score stuffing games. Against the Deacons, he had 24 points, eight rebounds, six steals, three assists, and only one turnover.  The amazing thing was that his performance seemed almost quiet for him.

Senior Mo Miller, playing in his second-to-last regular season game, posted a season-high 20 points. Freshman Jason Morris, given the chance to start the last few games, put up another impressive performance and continues to show a bright future. The Hephizibah, GA native had 13 points, 4 steals, and shot 5-11 from the field.

The Jackets combined for 19 steals, another team record, and outrebounded the Deacons 42-23, The team combined to shoot 44.4% from the field, and has yet to shoot over 50% in any game this season.

Tech returns to action Sunday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. against Miami in the last regular season game. It is the final chance to visit Alexander Memorial before the reconstruction project, and the last chance to see a basketball game on Tech's campus for over a year.

Georgia Tech At Wake Forest: Jackets' Best Chance Of Road Win

Georgia Tech (11-17, 3-11) will have its best shot at a road win when they take on Wake Forest (8-21, 1-13) tonight. The Jackets haven't won on the road in over a year, but get to play the ACC's last place team for a shot to break that streak. The Jackets won the first meeting between the two teams 74-39 in January. The 35-point margin was Tech's largest win in an ACC game ever.

Wake Forest has lost eight straight conference games and 13 of the last 14. Their average margin of defeat is 19.9 points per game in ACC play, with their only win coming by five points at home over Virginia. In their last outing, The Demon Deacons dropped a 63-49 decision at Clemson.

Georgia Tech's record in conference play isn't much better. The Jackets have lost eight straight as well since starting off 3-3 in the ACC. Tech has been an all-or-nothing team in the conference, winning three games by an average margin 23.3 points and losing the 11 games by 12.1 points. In Tech's last game, they came close to picking up the road win, falling at NC State 79-74.

Wake Forest has four guys averaging double figures in scoring, led by Travis McKie with 12.7 points per game.

The game tips off at 8 p.m. It can be seen regionally on the ACC Network (WATL in Atlanta) and heard locally on 790 the Zone.
