Georgia Tech Vs. Kansas: Offense Broke Records, But Defense Stepped Up Too

Orwin Smith, Tevin Washington and the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets offense has been a little bit frightening so far this year, even considering they've played a bad Division I-AA team, a middling Sun Belt team and one of the worst BCS-conference teams in the country. We'll see what they can muster once Virginia Tech, Clemson and Georgia come to town, but putting up the highest rushing yardage total in school history after leading the nation in passing earlier in the season has to count for something.

And let's not overlook the defense:

"To be honest, Coach Johnson and Coach (Al) Groh kind of challenged us at halftime to say this is the defense that we're going to need to play, especially heading into next week, if we want to be any good," said outside linebacker Steven Sylvester. "So he just laid it out there, and thankfully we rose up."

Whatever the staff said at halftime, it must have worked. After allowing the Kansas Jayhawks to convert seven third downs in the first half, Tech gave up only two in the second.
