Junior Gnonkonde Commits To UNC After Georgia Tech Issue

Lanier County High School defensive end Junior Gnonkonde was the very first commitment in Georgia Tech's 2012 signing class, but now he'll line up against them once a season, and not because he flipped - the Jackets did.

Gnonkonde signed with North Carolina over the weekend, after reopening his recruiting following a meeting with Tech head coach Paul Johnson, who, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, informed Gnonkonde that his test scores were too low to sign with the Jackets.

Gnonkonde is a 6-4, 215 lb. weakside defensive end for Lanier, and is rated as a three-star prospect by both Rivals and Scout. After parting ways with the Yellow Jackets, he entertained offers from the Tarheels, South Carolina, Wake Forest, Central Florida and Syracuse among others, but opted for UNC Sunday.
