Daniel Shirey-US PRESSWIRE - Presswire

Georgia is without running back Barndon Harton, while Georgia Tech struggles on defense without Fred Holton.

Some key injuries have hampered teams around the area early in the college football season, as the Georgia Bulldogs and Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets look to move into October while fighting without some key players who are sidelined.

The Bulldogs will be without running back Brandon Harton, who is expected to miss three weeks following surgery to repair damage to his thumb. The surgery, performed last Thursday, held Harton out of Georgia's entertaining victory over Tennessee, where the Bulldogs' running game was key to the victory.

Harton had compiled 15 yards rushing on just seven attempts in 2012 before going under the knife.

Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets safety Fred Holton continues to struggle with an Achilles injury, but has been improving over the last few weeks, and could see his first action since 2010 in the coming weeks. Without Holton, the Yellow Jackets struggled to contain the Middle Tennessee State Blue Raiders on Saturday in a upset loss.
