Boston College vs. Georgia Tech: Yellow Jackets simplifying defense

After firing defensive coordinator Al Groh, the Yellow Jackets will change their defensive scheme.

In preparation for Georgia Tech's game against Boston College this week, head coach Paul Johnson is becoming more active in the defensive planning. The Yellow Jackets are trying to find a new defensive identity after firing defensive coordinator Al Groh last week.

Johnson believes that turning around the defense starts with making it simpler, according to Macon.com:

"I’m spending more time getting a solid defensive scheme in place that is simple where guys can play fast and they’ll know what to do," Johnson said. "We don’t need 80 calls. We don’t need a buzz word on everything. We need guys to learn how to play and play hard."

The Yellow Jackets' defense has allowed 500 or more yards in three straight games and is giving up 30.2 points per game.

Changing the scheme won't be the only difference for Georgia Tech. Johnson said that more younger players could see the field on Saturday.
