BYU vs. Georgia Tech: Keeping quarterback contain required against Cougars

Kevin Liles-US PRESSWIRE

BYU has a quarterback that can hurt the Jackets with his feet.

This weekend, the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets are up against BYU and quarterback Riley Nelson, who is capable of extending plays with his feet. Because of that, the Jackets are focused on keeping contain on the Cougars quarterback. The coaching staff has been telling players to keep to their lanes this weekend rather than straying in an effort to sack Nelson.

Interim defensive coordinator Charles Kelly said that the team also needs to do a better job of shedding blocks. "I think anybody will tell you that, no matter when you pressure, you've still got to beat blocks," Kelly said. "There's no way to outnumber people every time. When you start doing that, you start leaving yourself vulnerable to other things, which can create big plays."

The Jackets fired defensive coordinator Al Groh on Oct. 8. The team ranks 77th nationally in total defense this season

Saturday's game against BYU is set for 3 p.m. ET.
