Georgia Tech interim defensive coordinator Charles Kelly is ready for the opportunity given to him to lead the Yellow Jackets defense following the dismissal of Al Groh earlier in the week.
When Ken Sugiura of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution asked if this is an audition for Kelly and the rest of the defensive staff, Georgia Tech head Coach Paul Johnson thinks this is a good opportunity for Kelly to show off what they can do,
"It's a chance to move forward and see how we can do. I think that we can play better than we've played. So we'll see."
Kelly does have experience as a defensive coordinator, manning the position for two years at FCS McNeese State. While at McNeese, Kelly had one of the better defenses in the Southland Conference. In 2004, the Colonels were second in the conference in total defense and topped the Southland in the same category during the 2005 season.
