Georgia Tech Hires Dave Walkowsky From CFL As New Special Teams Coach

Stay connected for news and updates

Paul Johnson has never been accused of refusing to think outside of the box, and he did it again Thursday, as Georgia Tech hired Dave Walkowsky, whose last job was a defensive coordinator for the CFL's Calgary Stampede, to be their new special teams coach.

While the CFL has a very distinct set of rules, particularly on special teams, Walkowsky shouldn't have too hard a time adjusting, as he has spent most of his 20-year coaching career south of the border.

A walk-on who became a starting safety at Toledo, he's spent most of his career in the collegiate ranks, coaching every unit on the defensive side of the ball as well as special teams in stops at Washington State, Toledo, Tennessee-Martin, Waynesburg College and Memphis.

He was the head coach at Tiffin University, a Division II school in Ohio, for three seasons before joining the Stampeders' staff last season.
