Georgia Tech senior quarterback Tevin Washington talked about last season's successful start and problematic finish for the Yellow Jackets at ACC Media Days. Washington thinks that lessons learned from last season will help prepare the team for this season.
The Yellow Jackets started last season 6-0 but finished the year just 2-5. Tech was one of the most powerful offensive teams in the country early on before an upset loss to Virginia derailed their season.
Going to play Virginia in the seventh game of the season, "We felt like we were just going to go in there and take it," he said. "We found out the hard way" the necessity of preparing each week
Tech lost the next week against Miami before getting things back together in an upset win over undefeated Clemson. Its consistency that Washington will be looking for from himself and his teammates this season.

A change of position could be in the cards for Synjyn Days if he is unable to overtake incumbent Tevin Washington as quarterback in the opening few weeks of camp. Davis is a dynamic athlete and could move to A-Back according to Yellow Jackets' head coach Paul Johnson.
"If he doesn't beat Tevin (Washington) out in the first two weeks of fall camp, I don't want him standing over there (on the sideline) in a baseball cap." Johnson affirmed Days' playmaking ability and his desire to get him on the field but noted also his habit of fumbling.
Barring injury it seems that Days would be unlikely to beat out Washington given his firm grasp of Johnson's offense. However, Days playmaking ability would do the offense well by being on the field. Lining up with both Washington and Days together could also bring a multitude of options for Johnson.

Georgia Tech head football coach Paul Johnson sounds optimistic as preseason camp rapidly approaches. Johnson took the podium at ACC Media Days and praised new strength and conditioning coach John Sisk.
"I think they've really bought into what he's asking them to do,"
Johnson also talked about new special teams coach David Walkosky and expects a lot of progress in that department this season. Walkosky is the first full-time special teams coach ever hired by Johnson. The added attention to detail is paying dividends for the players who seem excited. Johnson said that before Walkosky came along players weren't that excited about playing on special teams.
"it's kind of like they've done it because I think they knew I kind of wanted them to and it was expected," he said. "Now they're more excited to do it than they have been in the past."

ACC Commissioner John Swofford addressed the media at ACC Media Days and maintained his stance that the conference had done well at balancing academic and athletic success. However, it still has room for improvement on the football field and earning respect begins with winning non-conference football games.
Last year, the league was 9-16 against BCS conferences and 2-6 in bowl games. The league is 2-13 in BCS bowls since 1998. Given the quality of coaches and teams, there is no reason the ACC can't be more competitive, Swofford said.
This season Georgia Tech's out of conference schedule includes home games against Presbyterian, Middle Tennessee State and BYU. The Yellow Jackets will close out the season on the road in Athens against the Bulldogs.
