Charl Schwartzel Charges, Rory McIlroy's Masters Leaderboard Advantage Evaporates

Stay connected for news and updates

Rory McIlroy opened the final round atop the 2011 Masters Tournament leaderboard, with his four-stroke edge looking mighty comfortable considering his steady play throughout the event. But Charl Schwartzel! The South African player started his Sunday with a terrific birdie putt, chasing it with an amazing eagle on hole No. 3. It gets my vote for shot of the week, but my associates disagree. And with that, Schwartzel went 11-under to tie for the lead.

McIlroy, meanwhile, saved par on hole No. 2 after suffering a bogey on hole No. 1 due to an errant putt. He needed a great putt to make up for bunker trouble on hole No. 2 after his escape shot thudded into the bunker itself instead of skipping onto the green. Still, he's tied for the lead in the Masters with a chance to hang on for the victory.

Tiger Woods, Adam Scott, and Luke Donald have joined the mass at 8-under, with Tiger 3-under on the day. We're in for an exciting finish, folks.
