The Atlanta Hawks won their first game of the season when they visited the Oklahoma City Thunder at Chesapeake Energy Arena on Sunday night
After trailing at halftime, the Hawks were able to comeback and defeat the Thunder by outscoring the potent offense in both quarters of the second half, despite being without arguably their best two-way player in Josh Smith, who missed the game due to an ankle injury.
With Smith out, it was his fellow frontcourt player that picked up the slack in Al Horford, who recorded 23 points and 11 rebounds. Furthermore, point guard Jeff Teague and backup guard Louis Williams were also major contributors, combining for 35 points and 9 assists.
Star guard Russell Westbrook struggled mightily for the Thunder, making just five of 18 shots from the floor for 14 points. The UCLA product did have nine assists and five rebounds, however. Meanwhile, franchise player Kevin Durant nearly recorded his first career triple-double with 22 points, 12 rebounds and 8 assists.
Atlanta will have a few days to rest before hosting the Indiana Pacers on Wednesday.
