Folks within driving distance of the Henry County area are encouraged to head to the Atlanta Motor Speedway tomorrow between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. for the track's Open House. I unfortuantely can't make it but all my Peach State racer buddies - and even those of y'all who aren't race fans but would like to get a taste of what it's all about - should definately check it out!↵
Among the great exhibits and promotions that will be available tomorrow:
Fans can drive their passenger car around the 1.54-mile track. Yes, Hot Rod, that means you can take the family wagon through the same 24 degrees of banking your hero will be speeding through in September. All you have to do is put $20 down on tickets for the Labor Day Weekend events. I would not recommend smoking your tires or doing a Carl Edwards-style backflip off your door, however.↵
Get 50% off of pre-race pit passes. Walking around pit road on race morning, checking out your favorite teams setting up their pit box and chatting with the pit crews, is something every fan should experience. Or so I've been told, I haven't done it yet because I don't want to be the big clumsy idiot who costs Tony Stewart the race hours before the green flag. For everyone else, however, $125 gets you that access to all three races Labor Day Weekend, or you can pay $100 just to check out the Sprint Cup pits on Sunday. By being at Open House, however, you can
slash 50% off that price! 50%! You can't beat that!
Get up to 25% off 2011 NASCAR gear. So the season is only three races old, and I imagine there are a lot of us that are still stuck with last year's gear. That's another way the Atlanta Motor Speedway is hooking us up. Get up to a 25% discount on your driver's new gear. If you're like me and your favorite driver has new sponsors or at least new paint schemes, this could be the highlight of the show.↵
Tour race control! Want to see where Mike Helton and company are standing during a race and where John Darby orders all those penalties? Take a tour of the race control tower! I would not recommend leaving something in the seat marked "Brian France."↵
Turn laps on the Coca-Cola simulators! No, you're not Coca-Cola Racing Family Driver Denny Hamlin, but you can sure pretend you are by running the Coca-Cola simulator!↵
