NFL Power Rankings, Week 5: Falcons Slip After Ugly Win?

New, 2 comments

For more on the Falcons' win over the 49ers, see our coverage here and visit The Falcoholic.

After ranking in the top ten across the board last week, the Falcons might lose ground after eking out a 16-14 win over an 0-4 team.

Fanhouse is the first on the board, dinging the Birds from ninth down to 12th:

  • Rallying from 14-0 down at home to win is always nice, even when it's a game as flawed as the Falcons' effort against winless San Francisco. Atlanta can be happy with the win, but like so many teams that won Sunday, it wasn't exactly a great performance.

Pro Football Talk disagrees, rising Atlanta up from sixth to fourth:

The Dirty Birds are winning ugly, and winning ugly is still winning.

SB Nation NFL inches the Falcons up into single digits:

The Falcons are quietly putting together a very good season. You don't hear much about them but that running game is going to be tough to stop.

Fox Sports has the Falcons sliding one, down to fifth:

Atlanta is starting to show why it is a good team. In a game where they might have been outplayed, the Falcons found a way to steal one against the 49ers. Those are the type of games where you have to find a way to win if you want to be a playoff team.
