College Basketball Signing Day: Georgia Tech Officially Adds Julian Royal

Georgia Tech coach Paul Hewitt added the list of strong in state talent that he has recruited since his arrival in Atlanta with the signing of Miton High Forward Julian Royal to a National Letter of Intent. Royal is a 6'8" Power Forward who averaged 18 points and 8 rebounds as a junior while leading Milton to a 29-4 record and a Class AAAAA state championship.

Paul Hewitt had this to say about Royal:

"We are thrilled to have Julian join our program, and thrilled to have his family be a part of our program," said Hewitt. "Our staff, particularly Darryl LaBarrie, did a terrific job in Julian's recruitment, and we look forward to having him on our campus next year."

Royal choose Tech and Paul Hewitt over the University of Georgia and Mark Fox. Royal said that being comfortable at Tech was one of his primary reasons for choosing them over Georgia.

"I picked Georgia Tech because of the feeling of being in Atlanta," Royal said. "I’ve been at basketball camps for years at Georgia Tech, so there’s a comfort zone there for me."

"It was so close," Royal said. "If I could go to both schools, I would. It’s just that I woke up [Thursday]  morning with the feeling that I needed to go to Georgia Tech. That’s where my heart led me to go."

Espn.com has Royal ranked as the 12th best power forward in the country and 66th best player overall.
