The SEC Championship Game line started at Auburn Tigers -5, but has already moved to -4.5 as bettors Google old highlights of South Carolina Gamecocks coach Steve Spurrier dominating in the Georgia Dome in the ’90s. I guess.
The two teams met on Sept. 27, with Auburn winning 35-27. The Cocks led at halftime, but four straight fourth quarter turnovers — two each by quarterbacks Stephen Garcia and Connor Shaw — kept Auburn’s undefeated season alive. Carolina WR Alshon Jeffery had his biggest game ever, riddling Auburn’s secondary for 192 yards and two touchdowns. Auburn has given up tons of yardage to every elite SEC receiver they’ve faced, almost like clockwork. If Garcia and Jeffery can replicate that outburst and hang on to the ball, an upset will certainly be within reach.
They’ll need help from their defense, though, with Cam Newton in the house. Newton scored five touchdowns and gained 334 yards in round one, though the last two might not’ve happened without Carolina turnovers.
Auburn’s won half of its 12 games by a single score. Garcia hasn’t turned the ball over since early November, and Spurrier’s not going to miss a second chance at carving up this Tigers defense. Take the points.
