Of the Atlanta Falcons' five remaining regular season games, four are against NFC South rivals. Ending the year with divisional games is a nice trick the NFL borrowed from college football, and it should turn out well for fans. With no runaway favorites in either conference, several divisional races are going to produce some great drama -- yes, I'm thinking of the NFC West here.
The Birds can put the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in their rearview with a win at The Novelty Boat on Sunday. A three-game lead, plus the head-to-head tiebreaker, would pretty much lock up second place in the South at worst.
When these teams met in Atlanta on Nov. 7 the Falcons won by only six, their fourth straight win over the Bucs. Last year's game in Tampa was noteworthy for being the game that broke the Falcons' 45-year back-to-back winning seasons drought. Stakes are even higher this time around.
