Atlanta Gets Burned: Thrashers Fall 3-0 To The Columbus Blue Jackets.

Mathieu Garon can add another shutout against Atlanta to his resume – his Columbus Blue Jackets blanked the Atlanta Thrashers 3-0 tonight in Philips Arena, solidifying the league wide frustration at trying to beat a team from the Central Division. The Thrashers looked flat all game, presumably tired out from last night’s effort in Florida. The Thrashers allowed more than 40 shots on goals again tonight, giving the Blue Jackets a chance to fire off 42, while the Thrashers only tested Garon on 25 shots.

No special teams flubs or triumphs to report, as the Thrashers did not allow any powerplay goals, and didn’t score any as well. Only three penalties total were called all game, with Atlanta’s coming on a tripping call on Dustin Byfuglien at 3:58 of the third period.

The Blue Jackets’ three goals came from Derick Brassard (4:46 of the 2nd), Jakub Voracek (10:14 of the 3rd) and an empty netter at 18:34 by RJ Umberger.

A very un-notable game for Atlanta drops them to 6-5-2 on the season. Their next challenge is the Stanley Cup Champion Chicago Blackhawks Saturday night at 7:00. If you’re going, get down there early as it might very well be a sell out. Hopefully the crowd will be treated to a better effort than tonight.
