Florida State QB Christian Ponder’s 2009 season ended on an attempted tackle after an interception at Clemson. His Senior season in 2010 should have been brighter. Florida State’s Athletic Department sure believed so when they launched a full blown Heisman Campaign.
Ponder spoke at the Fellowship of Christian Athletes Breakfast this morning at the Atlanta Marriot Marquis. Host Ernie Johnson Jr. asked Ponder specifically about his health and he responded “The elbow is good. I threw on Monday and my body is a little sore.” To give you some context, Ponder was essentially ordered to rest since FSU’s November 27th home victory over Florida.
Back to reality for Ponder, he injured his throwing elbow on October 16 vs. Boston College. Ponder scrambled, was tripped by a BC defender and fell directly on his right elbow and burst his bursa sac. Ponder responded to the injury as few would, he sucked it up and played. He would typically have the elbow drained on Sunday and would participate in practice on Tuesday. After the Florida game, it was reported that FSU Medical staff drained his elbow and blood came out leading to Ponder to sit out the ACC Championship game.
This may be shocking information for you, but it hardly surprises hard core ‘Nole fans. Ponder graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in 2 and a half years. He completed his Master’s Degree in Business prior to the season. The Humble, TX native is as tough as it gets.
There are still a few days left for Ponder to continue to work the kinks out but I find it very hard to believe that unless Ponder has a set back he will be under center Friday night in the Georgia Dome.
