The Auburn Tigers jumped the Oregon Ducks in last week's BCS standings, holding a .0002 edge, almost literally the smallest edge possible. They're No. 1 in every computer poll, but No. 2 in the USA Today Coaches' and the Harris. In the event of a SEC Championship Game loss to the South Carolina Gamecocks, dropping to No. 2 won't be a concern. Dropping to No. 3 will.
↵The No. 3 TCU Horned Frogs are only .0612 points out of first place. They don't play any games today, but one of their victims does: the Oregon St. Beavers, who play the Ducks. An Oregon State win would almost surely put TCU in the title game, as it would both hurt the Ducks and help the Frawgs' strength of schedule.
↵But what about an Auburn loss?
↵BCS Evolution, our BCS community, predicts TCU will take the No. 2 spot if Auburn loses. So that trope we've heard all our BCS lives about a one-loss SEC team? Might not be true this year. If Auburn had lost to the Alabama Crimson Tide and then won the SEC, their final computer rankings wouldn't be all that different than they will if they lose the SEC after beating Bama.
