The second quarter was a relatively quite one for both teams until the South Carolina Gamecocks scored with 16 seconds left in the first half when Stephen Garcia thew a 1-yard touchdown pass to Alshon Jeffery to cut the Auburn Tigers lead 21-14.
But believe it or not that was too much time for Auburn because Cam Newton threw a 51-yard hail-mary touchdown pass to Darvin Adams to put the Tigers up 28-14 going into halftime.
That play was possible because Newton threw an eight yard pass to Emory Blake which put the Tigers at their own 49-yard line. That was enough room for Newton to throw the 51-yard bomb where it was tipped and fell into the hands of Adams who now has two touchdown receptions along with 215 receiving yards. Newton has 279 yards passing and three touchdowns to go along with his 38 yards rushing and one touchdown.
Just when South Carolina comes with a big play, Auburn comes with a bigger play to keep the Gamecocks at bay. It seems like Auburn is destined to play in the BCS Championship game.
