Notes From The 5th Inning: 6/19

New, 1 comment

Note: Occasionally, I'll offer a few of my thoughts on an in-progress Braves game during the middle of the 5th inning.

↵

Current score: Braves lead, 3-2

↵

How we got here: The Braves scored twice in the first on a Chipper Jones RBI single and a Yuniesky Betancourt error. Brian McCann launched an epic solo homer leading off the 4th. The Royals scored 2 in the 5th on a Scott Podsednik sacrifice fly and a Jason Kendall groundout.

↵

Game MVP So Far: Brian McCann; aside from his homer, he's also thrown out a runner stealing to end the Royals' rally in the 5th.

↵

Stat of the Game: Martin Prado's first-inning single gives him 99 hits already, the most in the major leagues.

↵

Interesting Trend of the Game: Both shortstops (Betancourt and Yunel Escobar) have made costly errors. Escobar whiffed on a slow grounder in the top of the 5th that helped the Royals get on the board.

↵

Putting On My Swami Hat: I think the Braves add 1 run off of Greinke and 2 more off the Royals' bullpen, then hang on to win. Final score prediction: 6-3, Braves.
