David O’Brien of the AJC takes a different approach by saying that the Braves should not bring Fredi into the Atlanta organization this season:
Anyway, you may have heard Fredi’s unemployed. He will only stay unemployed for about as long as he wants, I’d say, since teams will come calling quickly. If he works out a deal with the Braves, or gets some assurance that he’s their guy or their top candidate, I’d guess it would be a private thing and neither Fredi nor the Braves would let it leak. I can’t see them bringing him on staff during the season.
You ask why? Because that’s not a distraction they’d need during the second half of the season. Chemistry is something everyone on this team talks about, how good it’s been and how much that means. Well, part of that is the coaching staff. The players like them, get along with them, and the coaches with each other.
That sounds like the way the Braves would play it. I don’t think they’ll rush to make any moves just yet.
