Dudley to Hire Craig Ramsay as Head Coach of the Thrashers

New, 1 comment

In news that threw everyone for a loop, the Thrashers are expected to name former Boston Bruins assistant coach Craig Ramsay their new head coach sometime tomorrow.

Ramsay was part of the coaching staff of the 2004 Stanley Cup champion Tampa Bay Lightning, and was hired by GM Rick Dudley during his tenure as GM there. His coaching record as head coach with both Buffalo and Philadelphia is less than impressive at 32-35-7-0, but it should be kept in mind that he was used as interim head coach in each instance.

Ramsay has been an assistant coach with the Boston Bruins since the beginning of the 2007 season. During that time, the Bruins have made the playoffs each of those seasons. He also has experience from his tenure as an assistant coach in Ottawa (again, during Dudley's tenure as GM during the 1998-1999 season).

More updates to follow as Dudley finalizes his new coaching staff -- sources say that John Torchetti is still in the running for an assistant coaching position. Dudley likes to surround himself with familiar faces, after all.

Also, there are more rumors of one more trade to clear out that extra contract that's holding up the Chicago deal. It might happen tonight -- Dudley's in LA, which is explaining the late night activity. Please be sure to follow this stream for any updates as they come.
