Chicago, IL (Sports Network) - Carlos Quentin hit a pair of homers to lift the Chicago White Sox over the Atlanta Braves, 4-2, in the second test of a three- game set at U.S. Cellular Field.
Paul Konerko scored once and drove in a run for the White Sox, who have won eight in a row for the first since May 14-22, 2008.
Mark Buehrle (6-6) went six innings in the start, allowing two runs on nine hits to improve to 23-6 lifetime in interleague play. Bobby Jenks recorded his 16th save of the year.
Melky Cabrera went 3-for-4 with an RBI for the Braves, who have dropped the first two games of this series following a five-game winning streak. David Ross knocked in the other run in defeat.
Tim Hudson (7-3) gave up four runs on six hits in a seven-inning start. He also fanned four batters and walked three.
The start of the game was delayed by 1 hour, 49 minutes due to rain.
Cabrera's RBI single in the second put the Braves on the board.
Hudson, who was perfect through the first three innings, gave up three runs in the fourth. Omar Vizquel worked a one-out walk, moved to second on a groundout, and scored on Konerko's base hit up the middle. Quentin stepped to the plate and drove the ball over the wall in right. Mark Kotsay doubled to right, but was thrown out at home on A.J. Pierzynski's single.
Atlanta scored a run in the fifth to cut the gap to 3-2. Yunel Escobar and Cabrera singled to get things started. Both runners advanced a base on Omar Infante's sacrifice bunt. Ross followed with an RBI bloop single to right. Buehrle struck out the next two batters to keep Chicago in front.
The Braves stranded the bases loaded in the sixth.
Quentin led off the seventh with a homer to left-center field to make it a 4-2 game.
J.J. Putz, Matt Thornton, and Jenks tossed a scoreless seventh, eighth, and ninth, respectively, to seal the victory.
These teams last opposed one another back in 2004, with the White Sox taking two of three games from the Braves in Chicago...It was the seventh career two- homer game for Quentin...Chicago has won 12 of its past 13 games...The Braves announced that catcher Clint Sammons cleared waivers and has been sent outright to Triple-A Gwinnett...Hudson fell to 3-3 in eight lifetime meetings with Chicago.
