Hoops Recruiting: Sun Belt's Best Freshman, And Former Atlantan, Joins Jackets

Brandon Reed, Sun Belt Conference Freshman of the Year, has transferred from Arkansas State to Georgia Tech. As a freshman, the 6-foot-3 guard averaged 15.1 points and 3.4 rebounds per game, including a 34-point outburst against Denver.

Reed was a three-star prospect coming out of Powder Springs' Whitefield Academy, which he led to the Class A state title game with 21 points and eight rebounds per game. He was recruited by Georgia State, among other schools, but not Tech.

His decision to leave the Indians has been brewing for some time now. As this May report from Arkansas Sports 360 demonstrates, Reed requested to transfer over a month ago. He'll have to sit out a year before joining the Yellow Jackets. Provided coach Paul Hewitt doesn't sign any more guards in the meantime, Tech will have seven on staff for the 2011-2012 season.
