Braves Destroy Cubs, Bid Piniella Adieu

The Braves were firing on all cylinders this afternoon as they demolished the Cubs, 16-5. Omar Infante and Jason Heyward each put up pairs of home runs and drove in four runs each. Derek Lee picked up his first hit as a Brave (he's now 1-for-11), with a bases-clearing double in the eighth inning.

Mike Minor picked up the second win of his career and set an Atlanta Braves rookie record by striking out 12 in six innings of work. With this win, the Braves pick up the series, but as always the Phillies followed suit and beat the Nationals today. Thus, the Braves' NL East lead over the Phillies is still 2 1/2 games.

Lou Piniella announced this morning that today would be his last day as a Major League Baseball manager, as he needs to spend time with his ailing mother. Piniella has spent almost half a century in Major League Baseball. We wish Lou and his mother the best.
