FCS Football: No. 4 Jacksonville State Vs. Georgia State

After losing its first-ever game last weekend to Lambuth, Georgia State faces a team that may or may not be ranked in the middle of the SEC West standings after beating Ole Miss 49-48 two weeks ago (to the delight of our LSU associates).

Jacksonville State, fourth-ranked in the FCS top 25, last week rallied to beat Chattanooga, who nearly beat second-ranked Appalachian State the week before. Maybe they're looking forward to a cupcake game against a first-year program?

"I wouldn’t call them a breather," head coach Jack Crowe said Monday. "I got my eyes opened sitting in some meetings this morning. I’m sure that’s what Ole Miss probably had some folks saying and Virginia Tech."

"They have resources," Crowe said. "When Bill took that job, one of the first things he did was come over here and just sit down and talk and walk and look around and see what the differences were. It was two ball coaches talking that day. Well, it’s competitive today and I think they are competitive."

Ken Suguira has a scouting report, showing the Gamecocks run a balanced, efficient offense; defend the run very well; adjust well at halftime; and have a strong kick return game. They're also capable of nonsense like this:

More to come on this and other FCS games.
