Jurrjens Has Slight Tear Of Meniscus

According to Dave O'Brien of the AJC, Jair Jurrjens will probably make his next start despite having torn a meniscus in his right knee. The knee injury forced him to miss last night's game against the Phillies. Brandon Beachy started in his place.

Jurrjens slight horizontal meniscus tear in knee, likely to make next start Sunday. If not, Beachy.

Brandon Beachy pitched relatively well last night despite walking three batters and striking out just one in four innings. He was fortunate to have a lot of fly balls hit towards his outfielders, but against a tough Phillies lineup in a late-season game you had to have been happy with his performance.

If Jair's injury makes him ineffective, using another pitcher or shortening the rotation down the stretch is probably the best plan. Hopefully, he comes out and pitches like the Jair of 2009 on his Sunday start against the Nationals.
