Former Georgia Bulldogs great John Isner won his first match of the 2011 Australian Open, beating Frenchman Florent Serra in straight sets Tuesday morning. Isner won 6-3, 7-6 (10-8), 6-3, whatever that means, though I understand he nearly lost that second set.
Isner belted out 26 aces, and I don't know if that's a lot, but it sounds imposing. His second-round match will be Wednesday night against Czech Radek Stepanek. It might be on either the Tennis Channel or ESPN2, because tennis does not prefer to be easily scheduled-for.
Elsewhere in YOU ESS AY news, Michael Russell beat an Australian, Ryan Sweeting stopped Daniel Gimeno-Traver, Lauren Davis fell to Samantha Stosur, Donald Young lost to Marin Cilic, Coco Vandeweghe was topped by Alize Cornet, Christina McHale couldn't beat Carla Suarez Navarro, and Varvara Lepchenko, Irina Falconi, and Melanie Oudin lost.
