Georgia basketball will wrap up a three game home stand as No. 24 Florida visits Athens Tuesday night in an ESPN nationally televised match-up. The Bulldogs successfully rebounded from a controversial loss to Tennessee by routing Mississippi State 86-64 on Saturday. A win over the Gators would elevate the Bulldogs into a tie atop the SEC East standings.
Florida enters the game on a two game winning streak having won a sluggish battle 45-40 over Auburn before blowing out Arkansas 75-43 on Saturday. Billy Donavon's club is a balanced group with four players averaging double figure points led by junior guard Erving Walker's 13.7 average.
Georgia is led by SEC Preseason Player of the Year Trey Thompkins who is averaging 17.4 points and 7.1 rebounds per game. Travis Leslie averages 13.8 points and 7.6 rebounds per contest. Gerald Robinson Jr. is averaging 14 points per contest but is scoring 18 points per game during conference play.
The Gators have dominated the series of late, winning 12 of the last 14 contests. Those two Georgia victories have come in the last two seasons and most recently a 78-76 win last February in Athens. All-time Georgia is 60-35 against Florida in Athens.
This is the first game of a big conference week for the Bulldogs as they will visit Rupp Arena and the Kentucky Wildcats this Saturday whom they defeated 77-70 earlier this season in Athens.
