Ron Franklin Apologizes For Calling Jeannine Edwards 'Sweetcakes' (And Then Some) Before Chick Fil A Bowl

ESPN announcer Ron Franklin has apologized* for calling sideline reporter Jeannine Edwards "sweetcakes" and then "asshole" once "sweetcakes" proved unsatisfactory. This is the second time Franklin has reportedly made a sexist remark to a colleague. The incident in question, which happened before Atlanta's Chick Fil A Bowl: ↵↵

Edwards tried to join the conversation.

↵

When she did, Franklin said to her, "Why don't you leave this to the boys, sweetcakes."

↵

Edwards responded to Franklin by saying, "don't call me sweetcakes, I don't like being talked to like that."

↵

Franklin then said, "okay then, a-hole."

Franklin was then taken off the network's Fiesta Bowl broadcast because of the incident.

If you're having trouble placing longtime SEC broadcaster Franklin's voice in the index of announcer voices you keep in your head, here he is having a poorly informed laugh at an apparent family member of Sean Weatherspoon, back when the Atlanta Falcons linebacker was a member of the Missouri Tigers:

* USA Today lists the initial term as "sweet baby," not "sweetcakes." SOMEBODY GET TO THE BOTTOM OF THIS.
