The Georgia Bulldogs basketball team will tip off its 2011-12 season Friday night at Stegeman Coliseum against the Southern Conference foe Wofford. The Bulldogs have won seven of eight meetings against Wofford with the Terriers scoring a 60-57 upset victory in their last trip to Athens in 2009.
Tonight will be the debut of the new look Bulldogs post Travis Leslie and Trey Thompkins who left after their junior seasons for the NBA. The backcourt will be manned by familiar faces of Dustin Ware and Gerald Robinson but former walk-on Connor Nolte is the only other player on the roster that has ever started a regular season game.
Sophomores Marcus Thornton and Donte Williams are expected to get big minutes in the frontcourt this season while Fox also figures to inject top recruit Kentavious Caldwell-Pope into the lineup at some point. Junior college transfer John Florveus and freshman Nemanja Djurisic got the start in the Bulldogs' exhibition win over Morehouse.
Tip off is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. in Athens and will be preceded by the Lady Bulldogs' season opener with TCU. The game will be televised regionally on Comcast Sports and will be streamed online via ESPN 3. AM 750 in Atlanta will be broadcasting the game live over the airways.
